Blairsville Union County Chamber -
Welcome to Union County, the heart of North Georgia's Blue Ridge Mountains. Located 110 miles north of Atlanta, this beautiful region has mountains, lakes, waterfalls, and wildlife in abundance.
The altitude of the area ranges from 1,800 to 4,784 feet above sea level. Union County consists of 204,736 acres of land --- 97,843 of these acres are in the Chattahoochee National Forest.
Union County has four distinct, mild, enjoyable seasons. Spring brings on the blossoming of an abundance of spectacular flowering of mountain laurel, wild azalea, dogwood and rhododendron on the hillsides. Meadows and fields have a wildflower show of their own. Mountain wildlife begins to stir as freshwater fish challenge the sportsman's line.
Summer is synonymous with recreation. Golfing, hiking, horseback riding, and water sports are quite enjoyable with the beauty of the mountains as a backdrop. Warm summer days tempered by cool mountain breezes create the perfect climate for any outdoor activity.
Autumn is a very special time in Union County. The mountain forests abound in color and rise dramatically upward to scrape the sky. The top of Brasstown Bald extends a view of color that transcends over four states. Sorghum syrup simmers on the open flame.
Winter settles the mountains into a mild tranquility. There are no words that can describe the majestic beauty of the snow tipped mountains.
